Fine as a learning experience
Pros
Good for people starting out in interpreting, experience for the CV. Good if you like volunteering and don't mind paying for your own travel. Would suit people living centrally who can walk or cycle to assignments.
Cons
Very low pay and pay comes two months and a week after the work is done. I don't understand how the mileage works but suffice to say when I do get it, at 20p/mile, I'm not even sure I'm covering my costs overall. As a driver I'm having to spend quite a bit of money up front to get to the different locations. Some assignments don't provide mileage at all, and most assignments not more than 30 minutes in duration anyway so half the hourly rate. I also have to pay for ink to print the job sheets as it's either that or asking a stranger to fill in a questionnaire on your phone after the job. I think I'm going to have to quit because I literally can't afford to do this job.
