I think the best thing about 050media was its hands-on approach and the freedom it gave employees to take ownership of their work. Beyond the general training required for the role, the way you approached and solved problems was largely up to you. From my experience, the company had a relaxed and relatively non-hierarchical work environment, which made it a good place to start, especially for someone entering the position with little to no prior experience. There was a lot of learning potential, room to explore different approaches, and a generally laid-back atmosphere that encouraged independent development.

The pay was one of the weaker aspects of the position. At €14 per hour, it was useful as additional income while I was completing my master’s degree, but it felt close to the lower end of what I would consider acceptable for the Netherlands, especially given the cost of living in Groningen. Over time, once I had a better understanding of the value generated by the work, the compensation felt less competitive. For a student job or entry-level position, it may be acceptable, but the pay could be improved to better reflect the responsibilities and contribution of the role.
