Pros

Fun people to work with. Good benefits. Industry leader in Word Press. Solid knowledge of Word Press. Offered meet and greet trips to strength employee bonds.

Cons

Treated employees as disposable. Let go with no notice, only one week severance. Too much emphasis on billable hours. Feeling of isolation from technical peers. Were made to feel in fear of loosing our jobs at any moment.

10up Response

We respectfully disagree. "Were made to feel in fear of loosing our jobs at any moment." While we reserve the right terminate at will for cause, it is rare for an employee to be terminated without first receiving repeated and clear feedback, and even going on an explicit performance improvement plan. 10up is, of course, unabashed in its commitment to not retaining poor fits (for either party), and given the highly competitive marketplace we operate within, could not afford to "float" poor fits for long durations even if we wished to. As indicated in a response to previous feedback, our termination rate is actually *very* low. I do understand that's of little comfort to those few, so please accept my apology that we didn't realize our lack of mutual fit before bringing you aboard. "There is not enough time to take care of non-billable tasks, forcing you to work 10 plus hours a day and week ends to keep up." Two points here: (1) Factually, our billable targets for engineers are an agency industry standard ~85% (I've actually worked at agencies that expected *100%* of time to be billed to clients, by way of comparison). That means 6 out of 40 hours each week (almost 1 full day out of 5) is reserved for miscellaneous non-billable tasks, of which there are very few. We're here to support our clients. (2) As I've pointed out to ill fit hires in the past, you should look at the need to work 10+ hour days as another sign of your lack of fit at 10up (comparatively requiring too much time to complete assignments), not as a sign of our unrealistic expectations. Best wishes as you pursue future roles.

Pros

Fully remote & usually flexible schedules given an international team. Most team members are strong and experienced. If you know how to clock in & clock out and turn of your brain to the social and political aspects of work, you can get an ok pay check here.

Cons

Since the private equity acquisition and merger with “Fueled” (10up will no longer have its name and some point and just be a part of “Fueled”), post job salaries have gone down $10k. 10% of the company was laid off. Benefits have gotten worse, and policies more unclear. What is clear is the private equity “squeeze” to get as much productivity from individuals as possible while removing support structures, leadership, benefits, and perks. Culture is disjointed, leadership is not on the same page with one another, and they are out of touch with the wider team and “little people” The team is not diverse. I have never interacted with a black employee. Because they hire people in other countries (India, Africa, Europe) they call that diversity. Few women in leadership actually making decisions
