Pros

Flexible work life balance. Great electrical hardware systems and innovative power grid solutions.

Cons

Software is not ABBs core business. They bought Ventyx to fill a portfolio hole and have tried to cobble together some disparate systems to provide customers with a ‘smoke and mirrors’ whole of enterprise software solution. Brisbane office will probably disappear soon as a result of increased outsourcing to Malaysia and Indonesia with a corresponding decrease in software quality. Not making any new sales and relying heavily on existing licenses. Many senior ‘Ventyx’ executives and tech people have already seen the writing on the wall and left. Mostly to G.E. or other more software savvy companies. Not much left in the way of tech talent in the Brisbane office. ABB Ellipse customers are seriously unhappy particularly with the MS Azure solution which has everyone constantly fighting support fires instead of innovating. Even Australian Defence wants to get rid of ABB Ellipse in favor of SAP so they won’t be able to rely on that backup for much longer which is sad because ABB Ellipse is still a technically superior product to SAP.

Pros

- Exposure to large-scale manufacturing systems and cross-functional projects - Can build strong manufacturing and quality engineering experience quickly - Competitive pay and solid benefits for the area

Cons

Work-life balance can be inconsistent depending on department and production demands * Advancement opportunities may feel limited without moving into management or relocating * Communication and management consistency can vary between shifts/departments * Production pressure and changing priorities can create stress in quality-related roles * Some roles may require overtime or schedule flexibility that can be difficult for employees with family responsibilities * Recognition for process improvements and extra responsibilities may not always match workload expectations * Culture can feel more production-focused than employee-focused at times
