Pros

Decent starting salary. Good way to get some training on financial lending and also get some insurance licenses training and selling under your belt. Good to have cash handling and balancing on the resume. Also can get some management trainee experience.

Cons

Poor, poor, poor management. When this place was downsizing, within a year I witnessed over 70 years of experience either get forced out the door or quit out of frustration and this was just from a couple of offices! Job evaluations, if you don't meet your sales goal be prepared to be threatened with your job and written up. This place is all about making money, forget about trying to help customers in a tight spot, even if it is charging them the max interest of 32%. If you don't like to collect then this place isn't the best fit. Not only do they do phone calls and letters, expect for Financial Reps to go out to customer's housings to look for cars, boats and take pictures of houses for anybody who is very deliquent!

Pros

American General (AGFS) does not require a college degree for 99% of their positions, a high school diploma is acceptable. Someone with limited experience but a good attitude and willingness to learn (and self-train) could change careers and "flourish".

Cons

Training is non existence. Consistency is nonexistent. There is a excessive amount of favoritism, gender discrimination, unfair promotion standards, and an unsupported ethics policy. If you are willing to do ANYTHING for the company (right or wrong, but in the company's benefit) you will have a prosperous career.
