Pros
The team is great - people are nice, hours are fair with only expectation for 45+hour weeks when things are very busy. AIR very reputable in the market and you aquire a lot of knowledge on the software side of Cat modelling. Great place to begin a Cat modelling career. Access to lots of interesting research. Look after staff well in London. AIR/Verisk doing very well at the moment. Pay is fair
Cons
Legacy issues rampant in the market persist here, both in culture and in tech. Doesn't feel that innovative becuase it takes so long to produce even modest upgrades to the product. This is partly becuase of clients reluctance to upgrade thier view of risk so isn't entirely AIRs issue, but is frustrating. Bugs in new software releases are embarrassing, but genuinely better than rivals. London office only really exists to serve London clients and most of the interesting work is in the US. Job can become repetitive at times and you have to put up with a lot of stick from clients who think the software isn't good enough - which is fair becuase it isn't. The market is a duopoly which is great for making money, but negative becuase it kills creativity and innovation. Feels like whole industry is waiting for an upstart who can bypass software issues by starting fresh.
