Workplace politics The high level technical staffs, PMTSes and Fellows to be specific, have too much weight in AMD's promotion process and unfortunately they don't care much about detail oriented tasks like coding and fixing bugs etc,. Working on these tasks might keep you away from being laid off but certainly won't help you much with your career development. Participating meetings and asking questions to draw attention or making friends with PMTS(having lunch with them is a good start) are the ways to go.
