Pros

Excellent experience for a recent grad. You will learn a wide range of immunoassays and overall lab practices.

Cons

Horrible, horrible, horrible company dynamics. Management spends all day bouncing between meetings that are a different configuration of the same ~15 people, trying to solve problems and refusing to hear any feedback from the technicians who deal with the problems day to day. High manager turnover means that if you make it longer than ~6 months, they’ll likely try to circle back to something the department has already tried that doesn’t work, but if you try to tell them that they’ll say they’ll do it better this time (they never do). Continue to hire more executives who make likely close to three times the salary of the technicians, yet refuse to give decent raises to techs who have proven their worth. Yearly reviews mean nothing because the manager has no say in your raise. Promises of promotions to deserving technicians “eventually” yet promote people from other departments seemingly any time they want. Interdepartmental feuds that started for who knows why, but are solidified by the director who excuses her old department’s faults no matter what. SBS is the scapegoat of this company even though their work is essential to its success.

Pros

Supportive Coworkers, Free Eggs, Plenty of Overtime

Cons

Its an okay job for someone starting in the science field but don't plan to stay for more than 6 months. Very draining job; constant under staffing and management suddenly changing SOPs without warning doesn't help. Your expected to do the work of two people for the price of one. Management has little to no understanding of basic science and constantly makes that everyone elses problem. Not the safest workplace either; broken fire alarms, improper training of hazardous chemicals, and sketchy electrical boxes just to start. Technicians get blamed for contamination despite there being actual black mold in the walls and the clean room being a joke. When technicians try to provide advice or observations they are ignored. Overall a lot of good people trying their best despite terrible circumstances, management, and equipment.
