Pros

No transparency, a lot of promise from the job description but fell short of expectations. they do spend a great deal on promoting themselves as a brand They do have good vacation but this is a audit friendly company , hence you have to schedule them only when there is no audits which is rare.

Cons

the job description that I applied to and got selected was IT related but the team that I joined was a some record keeping and doc control (more clerical). there was one aspect of the role that was IT related but not all of it.(which accounted for <40% of the role) the hiring manager retired and the replacement manager although realized the need for the role but decided on molding me into her area of expertise. She had a dislike for me from the beginning very evident in the way she picked on me, she even gave me partial achieved performance review just 5 months into the job. Her mocking at my IT specific skills proved that she didn't take time to know my background and also her knowledge in the subject. She always took sides with the other team member, wonder if it was because I was a person of color. Although there is HR related course on unconscious bias, diversity and stuff, you could definitely see a shift in behavior if you are white. There is a diversity program but no inclusion and equity. Also got to experience some uncivil behavior from manager of manufacturing, he would send emails that bad mouthed you and make it appear like an oopsy. I guess Abbott should invest in some behavioral and team building workshops, as from my experience they are very unprofessional and unpolished warehouse like environment. I do thank the manager for creating a hostile environment, if not for her I wouldn't have been forced look outside of Abbott and be in a much better state of bliss.

Pros

• Strong brand and market position • Talented individual contributors and subject matter experts sprinkled throughout the organization • Opportunity to work on products that impact many patients

Cons

These comments reflect experience within Abbott Diabetes Care. • Culture can feel political and risk-averse, with difficult issues often addressed indirectly rather than transparently • Decision-making is slowed by multiple layers of management, many of whom appear focused more on managing upward than enabling teams and execution • Long-tenured management structures can create limited accountability, discourage new ideas, and make modernization difficult • Some leadership styles feel hierarchical and dismissive of dissenting viewpoints, making it risky to challenge the status quo • Strategic thinking and decision authority are concentrated among a relatively small group of senior leaders, creating bottlenecks and limiting innovation • Office environments and ways of working often feel outdated compared to more modern organizations • Organizational responsiveness can be frustratingly low. Routine requests, decisions, and communications often require multiple follow-ups, creating unnecessary delays and reducing accountability • Promotions and performance assessments often lack transparency, leading employees to question whether advancement is based on impact, visibility, DEI, or internal relationships • Employees navigating significant career or life transitions may experience varying levels of support, visibility, and development opportunities, making career continuity and progression feel less predictable than they should be
