Pros
- better outcomes for students than NYC public school system - much less intense behavior management problems than average public school in NYC - energetic, young, and mostly well-educated teachers - decently good pay - fast advancement up the hierarchy for those willing to work very hard and drink the cool aid
Cons
- cultish organizational trainings, structure, and reinforcement methods among teaching staff (maybe the norm in charter schools, but definitely unpleasant and intrusive here) - little to no flexibility on curriculum - excessive focus on metrics like NYS Exam scores - little flexibility on behavior management (hope you enjoy "narrating") - principals and even superintendents treat underling teachers, administrators, etc like the children. They even use similar behavior management techniques, and I suspect similar metrics, to manage teachers and report their behavior up the chain. It's horribly condescending!
