Pros

I joined the company only because of Adam Khoo's name and students' positive feedback about this company culture ("very family-like"). When I started the job however, everything seems very different from what has been discussed during interview. There are no pros I can really think of about this company, since all I can remember is unhappiness and frustration at management.

Cons

I will just list a few major ones to warn those who are willing to join this company because of Adam Khoo's fame: 1) This company is no longer owned by Adam Khoo himself, but just a collaborator (yes you will get to see Adam during events, but all he does is to bring up the untruthful image of this centre, in order to earn more money) 2) Before you join, it is better to spend a good amount of time reading your contract. This company has adopted a "bond" system to force trainers to stay for at least one year. There is a verbal agreement of 3 months notice for both parties, but when come into resignation, the contract will only work against you. Plus, you don't gain anything from signing the contract and yet they made you pay your salary-in-lieu if you haven't finished the contract. How fair is that? 3) There is no bonus or 13th month's salary even when it is clearly stated in the contract. The so-called bonus will only be given when the centres have gained profits, and all the staff will get 10% of the profit (that is probably only several hundred each year). The worst thing is you need to stay until next year (at least June) to get the bonus for previous year (all the rest will be taken by the management). Thirteenth month's salary is just a joke. No one has ever received it before. 4) Last minute change of events/schedules for classes, especially for school holiday programs. As a working professional, I really resent last minute changes; everything is so "flexible" in this company that the boss can just anyhow cancel or re-schedule an event (even on the very day itself). Management said this is the advantage of being SME, and yes, that is also why they will never be able to grow beyond SME either. 5) Extra workload during school holidays + never-ending selling & customer service. We were hired as teachers, but in the end the boss wanted us to become salesperson during workshops, exhibitions and other events. We have no break during school holidays, but only extra working hours for school holiday programs (can you imagine the kids taking a whole day from morning to evening, 9 hours of studying for one single subject? They call this value for money; I doubt the efficiency of such programs). The worst week in June for all of us is to work more than 12 hours a day for three consecutive days. We are given no breaks in between (you get complained if you are found taking a break). 6) As tuition teachers, I am expected to cover multiple levels (from Primary 1 to Secondary 4) but I did not expect myself to teach kindergarten kids. I really feel sorry for the parents because I do not feel I am the right one to teach preschoolers. 7) There is a huge problem in syllabus and teaching materials in this company, because everything is prepared by teaching staff and there is no one working only on lesson planning/curriculum design. As teachers, you will be asked to take up material preparation for multiple levels and that is clearly outside your teaching hours. Besides, the boss still thinks he is giving us too much free time. 8) Talking to boss is time-consuming and tiring. He is good at twisting your ideas and you will never put your ideas through. There are good suggestions all the time, but in the end nothing is done and the same problems just repeat themselves. I cannot foresee any positive progress of this company's future, since it has been established for 10 years and it is still an SME with only 20+ full-time employees. 9) They want to tie their materials with Adam's success principles but most of the time I do not think it is relevant to students' requirements. As a teacher I will motivate my students but not by giving them empty promises and painting them a rosy picture. Everybody needs to work hard to get what they want. Not just by talking. 10) Lastly, needless to say that you will be facing lots of parents with unrealistic expectations from this centre. Adam Khoo sets the image, we are more like wonder creators rather than teachers. However, most of the kids are here for fun only, not for serious studies. Once they found out this is not so fun and left, you get the blame. Finally, how to survive in this company? Either you adapt to their "fun" teaching style, or just leave for good. I can't agree with them on the values of education, so my choice is rather clear.

Pros

Fun place to work in, great colleagues and supervisors

Cons

The management needs to be more strict when it is obvious that someone is slacking off and the rest of the team members need to share the burden
