Pros

You can be independently working on your own time with limitless earning potential. You are also providing the public with valuable products that can be valuable in the time of need.

Cons

I believe that the district and individuals involved in training you can be a big downside. I personally experienced a lot of personal issues overshadowing business obligations. I felt that I was more of a tool for finding veteran agents more leads in the end; because I was promised, but not provided all the proper tools for understanding the business and being successful. Many of the veteran agents available to me at the time that I worked for the office were constantly involved in personal issues, interoffice relationships, and personal business obligations; which left me in limbo and clueless to what I needed to be doing on a day to day when trying to build and service my own clientele. A lot of broken promises during my experience also. Although, I will say there were other agents that came in at various points that had a different experiences and were quite successful. At some points I wondered if they were slightly uncomfortable with working with individuals of other ethnicities. I don't like to give up, but by hanging in there it cost me what little livelihood I entered with.

Pros

Freedom to be your own boss, trips, bonuses, renewable income (instead of one time commission), career instead of just a job. FORTUNE 500 and a World's most Ethical Company. Great training (at least here in Wyoming) and a family mentality. Great family/work balance.

Cons

No base pay, can be a slow start at first, you have to be very organized and self-driven, have to be licensed in life and health to sell insurance (but my management help with the process).
