Pros

Working at the Akron Zoo has been an incredibly rewarding experience. The organization truly values its employees and creates a welcoming, team-oriented environment where everyone feels appreciated. Leadership is supportive, communication is open, and there is a strong sense of shared purpose throughout the zoo. One of the best parts of working here is the passion employees have for animal care, conservation, education, and community engagement. Every day feels meaningful because the work positively impacts both guests and wildlife. The Akron Zoo also encourages professional growth and provides opportunities to learn new skills and collaborate across departments. The workplace culture is inclusive, friendly, and mission-driven. Coworkers are always willing to help one another, and management recognizes hard work and dedication. The zoo does an excellent job balancing professionalism with a fun and engaging atmosphere. I would highly recommend the Akron Zoo to anyone looking for a positive workplace where they can make a difference while being part of a supportive team.

Cons

Some challenges of working at the Akron Zoo include the fast-paced nature of the environment, especially during peak seasons and special events for ICT roles. Weekend, holiday, and occasional evening work can also be at time exhausting, more so for front facing departments.

Pros

AZA accredited, Vet staff who truly cares, good locker room area for your property, HR staff is helpful, Cafeteria is decent, discount is really good in the cafeteria, animal care team who care, SSP & SAFE species. Good zoo-wide communication.

Cons

The entire zoo is built on a hill. Trainers in this department can be rude and unhelpful. Asking questions feels like a burden and often retorted with sarcasm. Far from most places. Too low of pay for part-time & temporary staff members.
