Pros
The global collaboration is real. The people are very nice. They may be very busy but they are accessible. When I was hired not only did my boss reach out to me, but so did her boss, and her bosses boss, as well as everyone on my team. It made me feel very welcome from the start even though it was all virtual. While Alcoa is an established company, it is very forward thinking on many levels and in many ways. It is exciting to be part of a movement driving very positive change as the company grows. Alcoa takes Acting with Integrity, Operating with Excellence, Caring for People, Inclusion and Diversity very seriously. The breakthrough technologies Alcoa is working on are industry leading, sustainable, and environmentally responsible. It was a pleasant surprise to learn that.
Cons
With growth comes change. For those who are not adaptable or flexible it may be challenging to embrace new technologies and processes, even if they will be more productive and efficient and drive more value. There is a lot of positive change taking place and you need to understand it will be iterative. It will be constantly evolving and improving as we move forward. If you are an introvert you may find it challenging as the onus is upon you to reach out to co-workers. Fortunately, I am not an introvert. Due to the Pandemic I have not been able to meet in-person with anyone from my team. However, we communicate often thru Microsoft Teams, Chat, and Outlook. I look forward to the time when we can meet in-person for meetings that matter.
