Pros
My salary was very good. Working from home was a plus. A select few departments within the company are good to work in. The majority of individual contributors were fantastic to work alongside.
Cons
Having worked at Alliant Energy for the majority of my working career, I have seen the culture as a whole significantly decline over the last 5 years. If you are ok with feeling like just a number and never knowing if your job is secure (even if you do great work, always have positive reviews & are very well liked), then this is the company for you. If you don't mind an executive leadership team that wants you to abide by core values and principles, but blatantly disregards them themselves, again, this is the place for you! Recently, approximately 45 people were terminated in one day with no warning. The only explanation was that an outside firm told executives that there were too many employees in the department. There were no reviews of people's performance or workload. No rational was given for who stayed and who had to go. The leaders responsible for wiping out 20% of the department in one day had never even met the vast majority of the people they terminated. Now the people who remain are walking on eggshells and have to pick up the pieces from the aftermath, while leadership publishes news articles about the 'savings' they are providing for the customer and pocketing a nice, big bonus at the end of the year for saving on the budget. The lack of organization around this massive layoff and the lack of empathy is astounding. Alliant Energy used to be a great company to work for. I never thought I'd see a day where I would feel obligated to post a negative review to help warn people not to work here, but here I am.
