Currently, none. Once upon a time the benefits and pay level were quite good, but times have changed due to a declining coal market in addition to a multitude of mistakes made by management.
Cons
If you accept a position at Alpha Natural Resources in the current environment you must realize that it is only a temporary position. This is because about every 2-3 quarters for the past couple of years there have been layoffs and reorganizations/restructuring occurring. The culture is completely broken. The PR campaign about "Running Right" talks about always doing the right thing morally and ethically and "treating others the way you want to be treated" is not even the tiniest bit truthful about the reality of the atmosphere. Entrenched company politics make it near impossible to experience any kind of career growth unless you are in the good social graces of specific members of management.
