Pros

1) Smart, friendly, and motivated people. You will meet lifelong friends at AlphaSights, which does not happen at most companies. This is a testament to the company’s hiring processes and the people they have working in recruiting. 2) The skills you learn are valuable in anything you do in the business world (i.e. working with extremely smart and high-powered clients), but you don’t necessarily develop a defined skill set the same way you would do in banking, consulting, trading, etc. 3) AlphaSights offers decent perks and benefits. They offer 401K matching, subsidized lunch, cell phone reimbursement, company parties, and some gym discounts.

Cons

1) While AlphaSights is a great business, it’s not a great place to work. The product is incredibly low tech, and the burden of doing work manually falls on the lowest level employees — the associates and the managers. As a result you’ll consistently work 10-12 hour days nonstop, go home to an inbox full of urgent emails, and spend your weekends experiencing the same. While this is expected in some industries, working at AlphaSights is NOT banking or consulting, in neither the skills acquired nor the pay. 2) Expensive company parties and events, a flashy office, and surface-level perks seem very enticing, but these things do not matter and can not replace a truly valuable work experience — mentorship from people with diverse experience, earning potential, and a true path — as you develop your career. These valuable things are nearly impossible to find at AlphaSights. 3) The last and arguably most important major con about working at AlphaSights is that it can be incredibly difficult to find other career opportunities after being at the company for a few years. Some of the skills you develop at AlphaSights translate well to sales or account management roles, but should you be interested in other career paths, you may find yourself starting from scratch or going back to school. AlphaSights is in such a niche industry that recruiters and potential employers have a hard time seeing how you would be a valuable addition to their teams.

Thank you for your feedback. It’s good to hear the positives you mentioned, but we want to specifically address your constructive feedback: 1) Our teams do indeed work very hard to meet the needs of our clients. We’re currently investing heavily in our technology to automate manual tasks so that our people can focus on what they do best – critically thinking on behalf of their clients and delivering exceptional value and service. 2) We offer an accelerated career path for our client service team, with the ability for associates to become managers after just two years and vice presidents three years later. This provides a high-velocity learning opportunity, exposure to the fundamentals of business building and client service, and the skills needed for people management and leadership. We’re also investing in additional career paths and professional development opportunities so -- in addition to team events and social activities -- people have a well rounded, challenging experience at AlphaSights that lays the foundation for long term career success. 3) While many of our alumni have pursued graduate studies, even more have gone on to a variety of roles in a wide range of industries. Specifically: - 106 have moved into tech in account management, business development, engineering, customer service, HR, marketing/communications and more - 80 moved on to financial services in BD, financial analysis/accounting and investment banking and more - 32 have moved on to consulting in roles including consulting, HR, and more - 22 moved on to the sciences/medical companies in roles like BD, entrepreneurship research and communications/marketing - 15 moved on to entertainment/media/sports in business development, design, marketing, and other roles
