Let me be clear: this is one of the most toxic work environments I’ve ever experienced — and I don’t use that word lightly.
Altar’d State markets itself as a faith-based company built on grace and purpose, but once you're inside, you’ll quickly see that profit comes before people every single time. The leadership culture — particularly from the executive level down — is narcissistic, condescending, and completely devoid of empathy. You are expected to give your entire soul to this job, including weekends, nights, and any shred of work-life balance you hoped to maintain.
There is zero grace extended to employees, despite it being the cornerstone of their branding. Instead, you're held to unrealistic expectations and guilt-tripped under the guise of “serving women” — all while being micromanaged, undervalued, and emotionally drained.
There were points during my time with the company where I seriously considered quitting without another job lined up, just to protect my mental health. And honestly? I would not be surprised if I have nightmares one day about working there again.
I left this job feeling mentally and emotionally depleted, and I truly should’ve gone to therapy after it. No job — especially one built on Christian ideals — should leave you feeling like that.
I urge you with compassion to believe these reviews when considering employment here.
