Pros
On road staff are generally lovely and lot of camaraderie amongst paramedics.
The pay and annual leave is great, but feels warranted for the work we do
Cons
The culture between on road staff and upper management is HORRENDOUS. I have been here 3 years and it just feels a thought it is getting worse. We do not feel heard at all, very us Vs them mentality. A good example of this is we have recently had ipads given to us, but with no ergonomic support/case so we end up having to type out our case sheets with craned necks, often in a moving vehicle (or stationary). This is a considerable safety risk. This was raised by team managers in a wider meeting to the higher ups and one of the regional directors said "well if they can sit on their phone at hospital with no worry then they shouldn't have a problem" essentially having a dig at the paramedics who sit ramped at hospital with patients for LITERALLY HOURS being on their phones (this obviously does not occur if the patient is unwell). It is just one of the many snarky comments we have heard from upper management. It certainly makes me think to my next career / employer. I had dreams of staying long term and becoming a manager or educator myself, but seeing the morale and culture makes me want to RUN.
