Pros

AHA has been a leader in the humane movement for 138 years, and occupies the unique position of protecting children and animals -- the only organization in the country that does both. With such a wealth of experience in this space the organization has led the charge of every major advance in the protection of both groups since 1877. With a mission and scope so large, working here gives you an opportunity to work with a variety of industries on a number of interesting projects, like the agriculture sector, film industry, and with local animal control agencies. We pride ourselves on seeing the "No Animals Were Harmed" credit at the end of major films and telling our friends and family to buy products at the store with the "American Humane Certified" logo, meaning the animals were treated humanely. Working here I've gotten to work on a nationally broadcast TV show, march in a parade on 5th Avenue in New York, and meet with influential policymakers on Capitol Hill, among many other highlights.

Cons

American Humane Association has a long way to go to fulfill its mission, with a limited budget, but continues to do what it can. There have been periods where the management team was in flux, but things seem to have turned a corner for the better. With such a long, rich history, it can be overwhelming at times to feel like you're living up to the organization's legacy as its founders intended.

Pros

I applied for an opening and from the moment I received the first email from the recruiter, all the way through the interviews, follow-up conversations, and offer, to the welcome and onboarding process, my experience has been so positive and inspiring. I am thrilled to join this organization and the team. They have a big vision for truly making a difference for animals everywhere, along with talented and dedicated people.

Cons

I don't see any cons.

Pros

Talented and dedciated individuals within its programs. However, there is minimal tangible impact on actual animal support, and coworker relationships often stem from shared experiences of adversity and trauma,

Cons

Working at American Humane has damaged the lives and minds of so many amazing, dedicated individuals. This environment not only demoralizes but also damages the mental health of the staff. Employees face constant manipulation, abuse, and extreme pressure that pushes them to their limits. Despite many joining with the intention to advocate for animal welfare, the true mission is overshadowed by the CEO's fragile ego-centric agenda and her obsession with appearing to be a "celebrity," detracting from the organization's core objectives and the well-being of its team. I generally do not write reviews, but if this saves even one person from experiencing the trauma of working at American Humane, then it is absoutely worthwhile.
