Pros

If you thrive in a self-starting, passionate, challenging and exciting environment, then this is the place for you! This is the most interesting and rewarding job I have ever had! I have been employed at APB for over 15 years and am still a baby! Some of my colleagues have been with the company for over 20 and 25 years. This job has not only provided huge financial rewards, but will change you and make you a better person.Your learning and growing as an individual never stops from the time you set foot in the office. This job has opened me up to so much and I no longer live in a tunnel vision world. Some of the speakers we represent are making a big difference in our communities and transforming lives around the world. If you are a self starter and one that thrives under not being micro managed day to day, this is a perfect job for you. The harder you work, the more financial rewards there is. The owners and management respect and reward hard work and loyalty. Once you have proven that and establish a mutual trust, you can build this job around your life. The owners understand when a child is sick and they understand we all need to remotely some days. They offer one of the highest commission rates in our industry, profit sharing, paid vacation, great health insurance, sick time, dental insurance, etc. They close the office (and pay employees....) for two weeks during the holidays. They even close the office early on Fridays during the summer! This is the type of company that empowers its employees and encourages personal innovation. Once you have proven yourself to be both successful in sales and a loyal company team member, this well established, successful 50 year old company will not only listen to an idea you have to expand growth, they back it up financially and support your efforts. There are no other speaker bureaus I know that would do this... and very few companies who walk that talk. I have worked with many of the past employees who have left negative comments about APB on Glass Door. I know what your work ethic was- or lack thereof....I saw it on a daily basis and if you think that will gain you respect in life, you are misinformed. The grass is never greener on the other side-it just has different brown patches and if you cant deal with the brown patches on a particular companies grass, then move on and see if you can deal with another companies brown patches. Just don't bad mouth and put the entire blame on a company, if you are not successful with them. Like any relationship in life, its a partnership and I think you need to look inward and stop blaming others for your failures.

Cons

Because this is not a company that micro manages, that extends across the spectrum. You are free and empowered to build your business and at the same time communication between Management and employees is minimal. If you are one that needs constant motivating and managing, this may not the job for you. It is true that you may hear yelling from time to time, but the people who work at APB are very enthusiastic about what they do and express that during both the successful moments and the frustrating moments. If you prefer to work in an environment that is always quiet and not able to express yourself, than this is not the job for you.

Pros

You are exposed to some interesting personalities (celebrities, world leaders, authors, thought-leaders, etc). The work/life balance is pretty good. You really only put in the extra hours if you want to (unless you are an event coordinator, where the job requires you to be on-call almost 24/7).

Cons

If you like organization and structure, this company is not for you. Management has no business sense or leadership skills to run a business. Instead of focusing on growing the business, building relationships with clients and recruiting speakers, they waste their time focused on minor issues, nonviable speakers, or scheming ideas that will never materialize. In addition, management’s lack of trust in their employees is felt throughout the company. When big issues arise, management will rarely get involved or pushes the blame on someone else. There are no official job descriptions, which constantly causes issues of who is responsible for certain tasks. There is no teamwork among the different departments. Certain employees constantly complain about every single little thing, which takes up management's time and makes it difficult to want to help anyone. Overall, there is no incentive to stay with this company long-term.
