Pros

Non-profit, mostly nice employees, free hot cocoa, nice facilities, very organized and effective Youth department at the Orange County Red Cross.

Cons

I held numerous positions at the Red Cross from Volunteer to Youth Leadership to Camp Counselor to Marketing Intern. Though the Youth Department was very well developed, I felt that elsewhere it wasn't. As a Marketing Intern, I was sorely disappointed by the lack of leadership and organization. I wasn't taught very much, was sent to do menial tasks (at one point folding letters and sealing envelopes), and my supervisor often forgot that I was supposed to come in so I was left with little to do. Worst internship experience ever.

Pros

Flexible remote hours, supportive team that treats volunteers as contributors rather than interns, and a low-pressure environment

Cons

Tooling is limited compared to corporate environments — primarily Excel-driven, so you won't get exposure to modern BI stacks (Power BI, Tableau, Snowflake) unless you bring them in yourself. Data sources are inconsistent (legacy .xls files, manual exports requiring conversion), so expect clean-up work.
