Pros
Staff and volunteers are great, national connection to the American Red Cross is really educational about how nonprofits work, local support from community is uplifting, free access to all health and safety trainings. Long-time staff have been there forever. Opportunities to train and deploy to national emergencies as a volunteer.
Cons
Because it's a small organization and a lot of the funds are designated for clients in need, the hourly pay is low and there is no chance for pay increases. And that's for working really, really hard and being on call 24/7. Also often the culture of volunteerism is so deadset that often volunteers are brought in when there's really no work for them.
