Pros
-Exposure to many laboratory techniques and instruments with very little experience required. -Working with specimens from various animal species was interesting. -Night shift schedule worked well with attending school during the day. -Can easily stand apart from your coworkers with a decent work ethic and desire to learn.
Cons
-Because very little experience is required, you are often trained by people with limited knowledge. -Observed a lot of questionable lab practices. Not regulated in the same ways that human diagnostic labs or pharmaceutical companies are expected to be. -The longer I worked there the more I worried I was limiting my career growth if I wanted to move to more regulated companies. -Night shifts and weekends required. -Pay rate much lower than similar jobs at other labs
