Pros

Anthem in general is a good entry level music company for someone looking to get into the industry. It gives you access to other music labels/publishers etc. that you can grow your rolodex which is important for a person in the industry. The Summer Fridays, Christmas Closure (while industry standard) is very appreciated. The split of 3 days in office is better than current industry standard of 4 days in office so that was much appreciated. Since most of the people who work there are at roughly the same stage of their careers, the bond and connections that are built are truly special.

Cons

A lack of advancement (depending on department) is something that someone should be aware of going into it. If you do get promoted to management you're likely a department of one but with an increased work requirement based upon the new job title. Due to the nature of ownership structure things like headcount, compensation etc. can be disappointing with expectations on occasion exceeding what can realistically expected in terms of work output. A few specific red flags for me were seeing senior members of the team over indulging at corporate events (which made me and others feel uncomfortable), the removal of Pride Month events and when asked about it, the tone was defensive (which was odd considering the previous year's events), there were/are known concerns around certain management styles including situations that leadership was aware of but they were never meaningfully addressed. This contributed to a sense that behavioural issues would go unmanaged.. I also didn't feel like innovation or pushing the envelope was ever truly a top priority and yes, this could be due to the nature of the ownership structure - it can lead to an uninspired workforce.

Pros

The team around the CEO is great. But they're not allowed to shine.

Cons

The CEO, Helen Murphy, is the most under-qualified person in management that I've ever seen in the music industry OR any industry for that matter. She listens to no one and makes the worst decisions possible. She's had to have cost this company at least a million dollars and that's on the low end. A terrible leader who has no pulse on what is happening within the company or the industry. She also has found a way to use the company for her own personal means which is deplorable. Although she actually brought in some qualified consultants even most of them were forced to leave due to her ineptitude. Perhaps they, too, couldn't take the constant lying and posturing that goes on. I'm actually not sure how she got this job to begin with. I was happy to see a woman rise to leadership in this company but, unfortunately in the end, I have been sadly disappointed. Women are talked down to and made to feel small. At least she does it to the men as well. Thankfully, I have moved on to other employment but I feel very sad for the people left behind, although I suspect they will all continue to leave one by one.
