High req load/low pay/lack of leadership - Technical Recruiter Applied Materials Employee Review

Pros

Remote work - but it's not a huge bonus because everyone is offering remote these days. Interesting technology - leader in the semiconductor marketplace. Independent Contributor - Although I suspect that I felt like I lived on my own island because there was zero leadership on my team. Good benefits/ESPP/FTO - no complaints here.

Cons

You don't recruit - you simply process offer. And you will process a lot of them. I had 95 high level starts in the 1st quarter along with 30+ offer declines due to lack of competitive salaries/location/job scope. Req loads are not balanced. Some recruiters have sourcing support and just a handful of reqs, while other recruiters are drinking form the fire hose. High req loads - I had 137 reqs on my desk, and by the time I resigned, I was trending to just shy of 200. <-- That's 200 req for just one recruiter to source/fill on their own. No leadership (mentioned above). My entire leadership organization resigned after hiring me, and the replacement recruiting director never took an interest in what their team actually did. So we all just did our own thing because there was really no defined process. HRBP's did not support recruiters. There was lots of finger pointing about who owned what process, so in the sprit of "I just need to get an offer out" the recruiters would pick up the slack. Immigration and relocation packages are handled by the recruiting team, and this is a huge time suck. You should have admin support to handle these sorts of tasks. Low pay - negotiate a fair package up front, because the will not make this up to you in the future.

Pros

Strong place to start your career. If you do the Fusion Program you will learn a lot. Good training and benefits. Amazing Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Coworkers are smart and grounded people.

Cons

Stingy with salary, raises, and promotions. The engineer roles are broken up into Jr and Senior so the title progression goes Engineer I, I Sr, II, II Sr, etc which slows career progression and pay. Only the CA office gets extra pay due to the expense of living there, even if the MA office is expensive.
