This is a great place for intelligent, creative people who chafe under top-heavy management. There's a real sense that everyone here values you and believes you have something worthwhile to contribute. The main principle seems to be to hire impressive people and set them loose on projects, either in teams or on their own. This openness to new ideas and approaches, along with the confidence everyone places in you, ends up being a much stronger incentive to do excellent work than any micromanaging and whip-cracking could ever be. It also helps to contribute to a fun atmosphere that makes coming to work every day a bit less like coming to work every day.
Cons
One drawback to the open culture at Aptera is that it's sometimes difficult to communicate and coordinate between the various departments. You're often asked to work with several people who have different ideas regarding what your project should entail. And that can lead to some frustration and a lot of starting over again from scratch. Another con might also be considered a pro: Aptera is growing so rapidly right now some of the departments are in flux in terms of their protocols and structure. There are days you don't know which of the projects you're working on should be the main priority, and there are days you don't even know who you're supposed to be reporting to.
