Pros

The people I worked with. Not on the Ascension level, on the hospital level. The people in my department were amazing and helped make working for an awful company like Ascension tolerable.

Cons

Where do I start? 1. They spend too much money 2. They use outdated software and business practices that create ridiculous amounts of work. A simple process becomes so complicated you’ll want to throw pencils at the ceiling because that’s more stimulating. 3. They aren’t really Catholic. They are pretending to be Catholic. I’m not Catholic either but I wasn’t pretending to be Catholic to make a ton of money. 4. They will fire good people and replace them with ineffective automated services. 5. They will fire good people and replace them with untrained people in call-centers. It’s not the MSC’s fault that Ascension is a piece of garbage though, don’t be mean to the MSC employees. They aren’t the big talking heads making all the idiotic decisions. I could go on. Ascension is like that predatory fish waving it’s pretty flashy light in front of you starving face. You think you’re about to eat but instead it eats you. If your hospital is profitable, it won’t be anymore. If it was going under you might have a different experience....but my hospital was better off before Ascension got its greedy fingers involved.

Pros

The patient population can be very rewarding to work with, and there can be lots of different job opportunities but very limited advancement with mainly lateral department shifts if a person is looking for change.

Cons

Raises are almost non-existent. The "raise" is a yearly COLA of between 2%-3%. There is no ability to talk to anyone regarding a raise, even the admin staff are fully stonewalled in the overlly corporate monolithic HR style of maintaining "fair" wages. I have worked here for several years and I actually earn less now because my "raises" do not keep up with inflation and the actual cost of living. They maintain their functionality on squeezing as much as they can out of one employer by slowly shifting more job responsibilities called "opportunities" onto you without extra pay or change in title that would get a pay increase. They look to higher level licensed staff to provide more coverage for roles that they won't hire for or cut in departments. They do "organizational restructuring" every 6 months because more staff quit, they don't replace the staff, and tell others to absorb the former FT employees job responsibilities without pay increase and being told not to go into OT.
