Pros
When I was an employee, the cost of living was lower and the opportunity to travel around the country or world, experience new things, and learn was attractive. The pay was decent for the time, and the actual work was straightforward enough that you didn't need an enormous about of technical know-how to perform it.
Cons
The management at the time failed to act with honor and communicate my dismissal, instead opting to not only cease contacting me for gigs, but essentially blackball me from the company. I had to find out from a friend that they had decided to fire me and what the reason was, rather than being adults and informing me directly.
