Pros

Solid business with a long history of profitability. Pay and benefits are above average (very generous) and they provided a flexible working environment.

Cons

Appearances are that the company has a Management Team, Board of Directors and many shareholders/owners. The reality is that the CEO is the Management Team, the Board and controlling shareholder - it's exclusively his show. Most of the people who work there are self-employed contractors and not employees. Consequently the culture is highly dysfunctional and leadership is weak. There is an "entitlement" mentality throughout the organization. Reckless business expansion was undertaken, despite warnings not to. The end result was millions of dollars being misdirected and massive layoffs throughout the company.

Pros

Some really great folks there. Interesting and challenging work. Some attempts at socializing and getting the group together. Did have a long term planing exercise.

Cons

Was a great place initially, but during this recent downturn they seem to have lost their way. They were focussed on an office in India, where virtually nothing was being done. High turnover in that office and work was sub-par when there was some. Previous president focussed on that over real local issues; focussed on expansion overseas VS in Canada and that hurt them big time. He's gone now, but with the crippling reduction in work in Alberta, they are going to struggle to get back to where they were. As well, too many high priced staff and not nearly enough mid priced workerbee types. Cost model is out of whack with the market. Processes overly cumbersome.
