Pros

Indoor parking, fancy building, nice Christmas party in the winter and a beach party in the summer, half day Fridays in August. Interesting technology and large market potential.

Cons

Reckless CEO with a long history of bullying and making enemies (especially at the FDA!). 45% turnover in two years, including nearly every VP. The front office is an insiders club of old co-dependent pals. The CSO has been accused of plagiarizing coworkers ideas that he and the CEO surreptitiously patent. This is a distressing place to work despite the tremendous benefit to ophthalmology and immense market potential. The managers that survive more than an a year or two are mini-me bullies that mimic the CEO, all others walk or get walked to the door. If you choose to work there, expect quarterly strategy reversals and a different manager every 6 months or so. As one co-worker said "You'll be hired for your strengths and fired for your weaknesses". Oh almost forgot.. failed FDA approval on their bread and butter product.

Pros

Lots of company change in 2016 has made for a very positive work environment - the old reviews here are very outdated. We now have US FDA approval, a new CEO who is a great leader with experience managing several other successful startups, flexible work environment (1/2 day Fridays in Summer), great benefits (100% dental, etc), colleagues with strong knowledge of ophthalmic space. With being a small company, it's easier to move departments and roles if there is an interest - great development opportunities.

Cons

I was hesitant to work here because of the negative reviews and the previous hostile work environment. Apparently the stories are true but that CEO is thankfully long gone! I made sure to address this in the interview process because I was leaving a Fortune 500 company to take a chance on Avedro. Once I met the people, I knew that it was a good fit. The people are great and the company is going at a fast pace. It's an exciting time to work here! It's just disappointing that the previous work environment is giving the company a bad rep.
