Pros

The benefits and leave are good.

Cons

It's disheartening to witness the squandered potential of an organization due to a lack of accountable leadership, rampant favoritism, and a culture that drives away talented individuals. Initially, joining an organization dedicated to advocating for underserved communities is exciting, but that enthusiasm fades off when it becomes evident that it's merely a facade. The leadership predominantly comprises white individuals who prioritize their own interests, indulging in sabbaticals and hefty salaries while neglecting the needs of frontline staff, many of whom belong to the very communities the organization aims to serve. Opportunities for professional development are scarce, and any attempt to voice concerns or seek additional responsibilities is met with gaslighting and ultimately, pressure to resign. Expectations for outreach efforts are imposed without compensation, creating an unreasonable burden on already inadequately compensated staff. Meanwhile, the disparity between the meager wages offered and the cost of living further compounds the issue. The disparity is glaring when juxtaposed with the executive director's flaunted European sabbatical. There are so many things wrong with this organization, this was just a few. Please be aware, any flyer or anything you see from them saying their "team is growing", it is untrue. It is shrinking, their turnover rate is so high. It's regrettable that change seems unlikely until the board appoints new leadership. Until then, junior staff members will continue to be undervalued and deprived of opportunities for advancement. I urge individuals to prioritize their worth and seek employment elsewhere, where they will be supported in their personal and professional growth and truly valued as integral team members.
