Pros
I've worked with BASIS Independent Schools for over 8 years and what keeps me coming back is the school community. The staff, students, and families. Through that time, I've built lifelong bonds with my fellow teachers. In addition, the community that's built within our school has allowed us to build strong bonds with students and their families. BASIS Independent Schools give teachers great autonomy within the classroom, allowing them to teach the content through their preferred methods. This gives me the ability to use my strengths. Although, autonomy can come with its difficulty, in the end it has allowed me to grow as a teacher.
Cons
As an independent school, I haven't always felt like I teach a reflection of the community in which we live. However, my administration has worked hard to make adjustments to our school to better reflect our community and those changes have been felt in recent years and I look forward for that effort to continue.
