Pros

Flexible work week. You get an extra day off every 3 weeks. Depending on the department you work in, you get to do work that makes a difference in people's lives. The employer did a fantastic job at hiring the most kind, caring, loyal and lovely people that you could ever work with. It's probably the biggest perk of the job. Public Service pension Benefits

Cons

Long recruitment process. Expect to wait 1-3 months from the time you apply for a position, to the time you actually start. Many times, job applicants find another job somewhere else before BC Housing finish up their lengthy recruitment process. Unionized staff have been working under an expired collective agreement for almost 2 years. Current staff don't have a lot of faith in the employer anymore. They've repeatedly, over the past year and a half, denied to meet with the Union and rejected our simple asks. Extremely poor salaries compared to not just other crown corporations, but most of the private sector too. Many staff are paid so low, that they actually would qualify for some BC Housing's rent subsidy programs, which are designed for low income people. Staff are extremely over worked. Many choose to work through their breaks, start work early or stay back late. The employer favors hiring temporary and contract staff from recruitment agencies. They pay these recruitment agencies substantially more than their own permanent full time, unionized employees.
