Pros
The same as any other company -- the experience in a position is good for the resume.
Cons
As a policy, I do not write negative reviews online, as I know that sometimes “things happen” and people mess up on accident and not with evil intent. I’ve also NEVER been one to claim either sexual harassment or oppression of women at work. I’m very careful not to jump to conclusions and I believe, generally, people are recognized for their merit. But in this case, I must speak up. The lack of respect for women at BKM Capital Partners comes from the top down: the CEO Brian Malliet. With my own ears, directly in front of me, this man asked a fellow employee a most VULGAR sexual question during a Christmas party. I could not believe I was hearing this. This lack of respect for women shows up in hiring as well. One of our associate directors (a woman) has more experience in asset and property management than her male superior (whose experience is in accounting) and yet this male superior (who did NOT want to preside over PM) had to fight for her to be hired. There are NO other women in top positions except those in traditionally female roles (HR and accounting), which are also *overhead* roles. In other words, BKM will not hire women in executive leadership when the function is CORE to the business. The CEO Brian Malliet loves to attend Tony Robbins events like a religion, but clearly he does not practice what he hears. As long as you are performing your job, okay. But you better not have a personal life outside of work; your spouse or children better not get sick because you will receive NO empathy and NO support from this firm. Forget about them allowing you time to adjust to your new “normal” in such circumstances; forget about any managers “rolling up their sleeves” and working alongside you while you adjust. No! They will give you even more work to see you fail so they have a reason to fire you. They demonstrate by their actions they have ZERO loyalty to their employees. Which brings me to BKM’s abuse of the “exempt” employee status. They use this, of course, in order not to pay overtime. They expect employees to work close to 60 hours a week regularly, not seasonally. This is not merely my impression or experience there. Both a DIRECTOR and other managers have directly told me this in plain language! In other words, you are working an extra 20 hours per week, so is your co-worker, and together BKM gets the equivalent of three employees for the price of two. Genius! But unethical. One of the directors loves to write to the entire company that she wants to hear your feedback or to bring your feedback to your manager. But in practice you will get fired if you do. They do NOT want to hear any negative feedback about the company or their “star players.” They are, sadly, very biased and won’t tolerate it.
