Pros

• The greater team (producers, designers, social, etc) were a great bunch of people who really wanted to make great creative and cutting edge marketing materials. No matter how passionate they were, there were always roadblocks from the most senior management/founders, who consistently made terrible decisions - decisions that were bad for morale and bad for business. • Team bonding/commiserating due to said issues • Brief dog-friendly office. This was also vetoed after fleeting joy was had. • Standing desks • Filter coffee provided • Free paper-clips (limit 5 per year)

Cons

There were some big personalities and some big ideas in this place that were consistently shut down by senior management. There were constant roadblocks to project success and growth of the company, and the most intelligent and thoughtful opinions were not listened to. Decisions were made regardless of detailed strategies and dedicated time put in by talented employees, which lead to widespread burn-out and general frustration. While senior management may have had "good intentions", good intentions don't mean you actually know how to run an advertising agency. This was consistently obvious by the choices being made that would surprise the team. A great company is the product of it's employees, and unfortunately this wasn't realized at BLKBX.

Pros

+ I truly mean it when I say I could not have asked for a better stepping stone company to start my career with.

Cons

- The reason why I say that is because the high turnover rate and lack of immediate hires means that junior level employees will be thrown into the fire and asked to fulfill responsibilities far beyond their experience, job title, and compensation. If the chaos doesn't deter you, you'll grow and develop twice as fast as you would at a properly staffed agency. - I've never seen a company so adept at consistently hiring brilliant talent, yet somehow even better at mismanaging them into quitting after they inevitably get burnt out. You'll form incredible bonds with your coworkers through your mutual suffering. - Upper management is too removed from the day-to-day to know what you're actually doing. Someone once asked me where I saw myself at the company next year, and when I gave them my goal title and responsibilities, I was told to "be realistic". This was a complete disconnect from several direct superiors who've actually worked with with me saying that I was performing close to that title's level and responsibilities, and they would be comfortable putting me up for a promotion within a couple more months of growth.
