Pros
When you first graduated from college and you can't find a job else where. Job experiences have to come from somewhere. As the old saying, "gotta pay to play." The company does improved a lot from after the merger. Some rules have changed, such as one year for internal transfer, 401k starts immediately after you got hired (the core free contribution from the firm starts after 1 year working in there). The company like most other does provide some classroom training you can sign up for it. There is also tuition reimbursement, but only for business related class. Overall, BNYM is the biggest custodian bank in the work and it is quite a good brand name recognition.
Cons
The company is very cheap. Working at the back office of the bank was not a too good of an experience. computer are quite outdated at my office, everyone is still using the CRT monitors. There are no color printing. The printer my group use has been working for many years. Since my building was in downtown brooklyn, BNYM does not own the building, but rather a lease. They do not serve lunch in the building. There is a cafeteria for if you bring your own lunch. I still couldn't believe that they did not not provide soap and sponge. I don't think they like spending money on their employee's work place that much.
