Reorgs to hide company disorganization. - Engineering Babel Street Employee Review

Pros

Near constant company re-orgs (about every 3 months) means that you'll likely never have to work on the same project for very long. If you can get in good with one of the "Babel long timers" you'll have to be pretty aggressively bad to actually get fired, unless they're re-orging.

Cons

No leadership, lots of managers. Completely beholden to an erratic and disorganized PE-Firm (Veritas) employee who is covering up their own mistakes with constant idea's for reorganization. Zero-sum policy for raises, no one gets more than 1.5%, and if someone does, they take % from someone else. Meaning if there's a 2% raise somewhere, someone else only got 1%. Leads to a lord of the flies setup with employees. No long term strategy for maintaining any systems, leading to now weekly whole system outages at all hours. The entire C-suite has undergone turnover at least twice in 2 years. No company direction. Current CEO is more worried about posting on LinkedIn than actually providing guidance and vision. Over-reliance on ChatGPT means that any guidance provided shifts week over week when a new prompt is used.

Thank you for the candid feedback. There are themes in your comments that we recognize. The past two years have included significant change — leadership transitions, organizational adjustments, and shifts in direction as new leaders brought new perspectives. We understand that frequent reorgs and evolving priorities can feel disruptive and frustrating. Over the past several months, we’ve taken deliberate steps to create stronger alignment and clearer ownership. We brought in a President and Chief AI Officer, a new Chief Revenue Officer, and new heads of Product and Engineering who now operate under a unified structure. That alignment is intentional — bringing product and engineering together under one accountable vision so we can move faster, reduce handoffs, and deliver with greater clarity. Earlier this month, we held a company-wide all-hands to connect that structure to our North Star through 2027 and beyond — outlining how our product vision, operating model, and execution priorities come together as one company strategy. When product and engineering are aligned, it strengthens everything else: speed to market, customer impact, and long-term growth. Many of the concerns you raised — around ownership, consistency, and direction — are exactly what this next phase is designed to address. The focus now is steady execution, clearer decision rights, and delivering on the commitments we’ve set. We know confidence is earned over time. That’s the work in front of us.

Pros

Interesting projects and modern stack. Good people.

Cons

Don’t expect any clarity on progression and salary growth. Timelines provided are just a means to delay and get pushed back repeatedly
