Pros

Baboon is a company of dedicated, passionate professionals doing exciting, rewarding work with brilliant collaborators all over the world. Beyond the fun and engaging service work projects I've been lucky enough to be a part of through them, they've opened the door for me to invest my time and talent in meaningful new IPs and socially conscious media initiatives. It's truly great to work somewhere that is dedicated to having a positive impact on the animation industry and the lives of our potential audience. And not for nothing - we usually have a pretty darn good time doing it. This can be an intense, challenging environment. You're often put in contact with top professionals in the field, so we are all expected to be at the top of our game. There's a lot to learn and remember about a lot of moving pieces and the stakes are high - so it might not be for the faint of heart. It's not an easy job and sometimes it can be a struggle to keep up with the fast-flying curveballs... but in my experience it is absolutely worth it!

Cons

As a long-term Baboon freelancer, I'm happy to report that I've seen a great deal of positive change at the company over the past several years. There was definitely a bit of a rough spot with the internship program a while back, but it's a whole different story now. And management is very committed to listening to the team and prioritizing their concerns. Looking at some of the other reviews, I get where they're coming from - although some of them do seem to have come late regarding the timeline of how things were when. Things have been good for quite a while... and they're getting better and better.

Pros

I've advanced leaps and bounds in my career at Baboon Animation at a speed I didn't know was possible. As an intern, I took notes on high-level meetings, participated in creative brainstorms and writer's rooms, and learned the ins and outs of animation production at various stages. As a coordinator, I've been able to work on some incredibly cool projects, in both an administrative and creative capacity. My opinion is valued, and my coordination skills have improved exponentially. Baboon works with lots of different clients in various spaces - development, writing, and voice acting - and the small size of the core team means that I've been able to work closely on major projects in all of these spaces. There are lots of opportunities for growth within the company, and the team encourages interns and junior coordinators to give their input into projects. Writing for television projects has been my goal for years, and it's been amazing getting to actually do that here.

Cons

The internship program - and Baboon as a whole - is very "high pressure, high reward." It's a hard job, with important deadlines, intense production schedules, and lots of learning curves. But it's also incredibly educational, providing interns with significant hands-on experience, and holds you to the high standard needed for industry professionals. It's not an internship (or job) for everyone - it's much higher-stakes than many other development internships that tend to focus on lower-stakes tasks like script coverage or research - but if you're willing to work hard, it's invaluable.
