Pros
Loved the flexibility of the interview process as a working professional. Highlights once hired included casual workplace atmosphere/dress code, and free meals from the cafe. The HR representative was an incredibly kind and welcoming individual who did his very best to combat problematic practices in the rest of the organization. The salary and benefits for those in upper level positions were also satisfactory.
Cons
Badlands is definitely a fun place for kids, but beware: this is a place that is proud to believe that "suffering is a choice," per the owner. Do not expect compassion or transparent practices from disconnected management that admits to enjoying "testing" employees with difficult situations. Unfortunately had to bring up issues regarding workplace hostility, extreme stresses in the workplace, and sexism from a male manager within the first month of starting employment, and was let go with no warning due to vague performance-related reasons several weeks later.
Experienced high staff turnover, low morale among employees, and clique-y meetings with management and favorites. Every single employee is at the whim of the wealthy owner, whether it's regarding constantly changing dress code standards, curriculum/exhibition content demanded to be redone at the last minute, political games within the organization, or the latest money-making scheme targeted at clientele. There were also unfortunately some questionable building code and sanitation practices observed at the time, such as insects in cafe food left out overnight, cafe food being prepared on a folding table in an open hallway in close proximity to employee restrooms, leaking toilets, and the exhibit room taking place in an area not cleared for occupancy.
