Pros
This job will always be available.
Cons
The CEO is a veteran who doesn't care about other veterans! I worked here briefly in 2021 as a general manager in training expecting to be treated with dignity and compassion, knowing that I am under the leadership of an Air Force veteran officer. I, myself, am a college-educated Marine Corps veteran with leadership experience and figured I could work here as a natural transition from the service. Not only was I so unhappy that I quit on the spot, I would never patronize any of their dining facilities ever again because of their shady food practices and I would highly discourage others from doing so.
The entire business model is expositive against its workers and other general managers encourage prospective employees who were not able to work in the U.S. to provide fake documentation in order to work there. The salary is presented as around $41,000 + up to $ 4,000 in bonuses, however, that does not factor in the 48 hour REQUIRED workweek. This equates to about $17/hour (adjusted for overtime). This is not typical of the industry as I later found out and is exploitive and greedy!
Finally, worst of all, I was SHAMED into not taking as much as a 5 minute lunch break. I would work full 10 to 12 hour shifts with no break. Terrible, disgusting, and vile culture and behavior by leadership.
I have submitted reports to the health department that resulted in citations for Barnett Management, meaning that THEY WERE SUBSTANTIATED. I won't go into too much detail, but among the reasons were serving expired food, improper food handling (no training requirement either, illegal in AZ), and making workers (me) come in WITH POSITIVE COVID results.
The full report and citation can be found online on the AZ health department website.
I am not surprised that they have such a poor retention rate. This organization has to seriously reconsider its view of employees as people in 2022. I do hope they have changed for the better but I cannot forgive them for their treatment of me during my tenure.
