Pros

There is plenty to learn at Barnside. I was looking for someplace to get some experience before heading off to school and I got plenty. Aside from the usual dogs and cats, they also saw small farm animals like goats and sheep. Every day was a new opportunity to learn and you never knew what would come through the door next.

Cons

I don't really have any complaints. The pay is excellent and I loved the 12 hour schedule. By working 3 1/2 days a week, you would always have half a week off.

Pros

I loved all the animals there

Cons

Michael (the owner) was always yelling. Everything done wrong would be a meeting to yell at us. I also felt the gerbils weren’t well cared for

Pros

Competitive salary, extraordinarily clean and organized work environment (due to copious amount of down-time - see cons).

Cons

Barnside Veterinary Hospital offers no paid holidays, no paid vacation, and no paid sick time, unless you've been there for more than three or four years. There is no overtime available, and work days are extremely long with entirely too much down-time. Micromanagement at its worst. Managment is irrational and unreceptive to employees' concerns about anything, including legitimate personal issues and suggestions regarding improving patient care. Some medical care and recommendations/procedures for all species are questionable, but especially regarding cats. Zero advancement opportunities unless you take it upon yourself to go to school and earn a degree.
