Pros

True Meritocracy, Investment Investment Investment, Transparency, Travel, Opportunity, Culture, Growing organisation, Always forward thinking, Excellent Training, Trust, Friendship, Embarrassing bets, Incentives (short and long term) Huge Highs when you make a great deal - Commission is second to none - trust me on that. I laugh at my friends who work the same hours in other recruitment companies for 10% commission. Yes I said 10% (and some of that can be held back). We offer up to 35% and our average deal value is 19,000. I made over 100k last year in commission alone and tbh, I did most of that over a 6 month period. You are not limited to what you can earn. Whatever get's said on Glassdoor, is usually reflective of 'which side of the fence' someone is sitting on. Let's be honest with ourselves - there are no perfect jobs on this planet (unless you are that person who wins the competition to be the caretaker of a tropical island off the coast of Australia for a year and even that would have it's downsides I am sure) so you have to weigh up the pros and cons. If you want to get paid well for working hard, then do this job. If you are happy picking up the phone and striking up relationships with people you have never met and then working out that if you are able to find out what they want, and offer it to them in a way that is pretty much impossible to refuse, then do this job. If you want to learn about an industry that you would have had no earthly idea about before you joined Barrington James, then do this job. And best of all if you are able to commit to a job and organisation and realise that it is bigger than you, but that you have the ability to contribute to it (and thus will be rewarded) then do this job.

Cons

Long hours (sometimes 60+ per week), low basic salary, KPI's (though i must say you are responsible for your own) growing organisation, embarrassing bets, you live and die by your own merits, nowhere to hide from your own mistakes, monthly targets (a bit higher than other companies), pressure, ridiculous lows when things are not going right (it can be a rollercoaster ride), so basically the toughest sales job in the world - your product has the ability to say no in the end. This job is not for everyone. It has the ability to crush you.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. We appreciate the honesty. You are indeed correct the more you put in the more you get out. We also have a career path for everyone. If you want to rise through the company quickly, manage a team, open an office overseas, become a Director then that career path is there for you. If you want to stay in one office and grow your niche and bill more and more each year, comfortably earning £150-£250K each year then we have those positions too and will support you as much as you need. I agree that no job is perfect (the island thing would bore me to death) but we try to base our ethos on money, holiday and fun. The job does have its downs as well as its ups. We deal with humans and they can be an unpredictable bunch we are lucky to work in a company where your managers and Directors have all been through it, all felt the pain on a Monday morning when a candidate didn't turn up and all had a 'certain' deal fall out of bed, they know how it feels and will help you through it. Although it has to be said that most of the ability to do this comes from yourself and your inner voice - if you are a negative person then this probably isn't the job for you!! As you know we are working extremely hard to improve our recruitment process from the beginning to end all of our interviews do include a work assessment so that potential candidates can see what they will be doing day to day and we've definitely raised the bar recently. We are currently recruiting an extra 7 internal recruiters to help with this process. If you know anyone wanting to come and find out more send me or Dean Govier our AD of Talent Acquisition your CV or call him for a chat on +44 1293 776644 ( dgovier@barringtonjames.com) We do back our award winning training and very experienced management team to turn hungry, ambitious, motivated, competitive, fun people into top recruiters but unfortunately it just isn't for everyone - if it was easy the rewards wouldn't be so great!! Our growth plans are massive (not on an Apple scale, but massive) this will give you and many like you the potential to carve your own path. We are an entrepreneurial company and if you want to open an office somewhere rather than travel around and write about it if you come to us with a business case and a history with us of achieving we will back you all the way. If you want to create a new brand that is in our 'Core' of Pharmaceutical and Healthcare like Simon Allsop did with our Board and Executive Partners brand to place C-suite people then we will back you. My advice to future employees is as you say - read the title of the review. Come in and have an interview and attend a call assessment. Think long and hard not that you WANT to earn £50K++ in year 1, £90K++ in year 2 and £100K++ beyond that but if you are DRIVEN, MOTIVATED, DETERMINED, HARD WORKING and COMPETITIVE enough to. Leadership, Commission. Incentives. Culture. Team. The people there are all good people!

Cons

Difficult to say. The market in general has been tough for the last couple of years, but the unwavering support from leadership has been amazing!
