Pros

Decent work-life balance with options for teleworking, taking leave, and having family time. Good medical plan and decent benefits, if they don't completely cut them out. As long as you can keep your head down and do what your told without asking to many questions, you should be fine.

Cons

Everything is based on internal politics, including management positions, performance reviews, and pay raises. Those in charge are very unprofessional and they seem to enjoy keeping that way. No way to get meaningful work done. They seem to have no money but can spend on meaningless things and areas. Management willingly violates the core values of the company without thinking twice. I have no idea how the place is still open. My advice is to stay clear of wreckage known as Battelle Memorial Institute.

Pros

They pay my salary on time.

Cons

-They are run like grad school. They have you compete against your co-workers for funding, they consider rules and laws as simple impediments to be overcome by capricious edicts, they will treat you like a rented mule if you let them. I have come to the conclusion that senior management cares very little about work conditions or employees, only about the bottom line. This experience has significantly changed my opinion of not-for-profit companies. If you are a researcher looking for an open and collaborative environment with shared goals, I suggest you look elsewhere.
