Pros
I loved this job soooo much when I was in college. Not only did working for this program fit my school schedule, but since I was studying to be a teacher, it helped give me exposure to how working with kids will be.
I worked in YDP for about 7 years (out of H.S and college years) as a PW, PS, then became promoted to a site coordinator. I would have loved to stay at my school/program if this was a full time job. I loved the structure of the curriculum and all the activities the program had to offer for us coaches to do with the kiddos. The program also gave me room to do my own activities with the kids such as Student of the Month and Family Fun Fridays.
I had the best team of coaches after a few laid back coaches quit. I took time to build a good team, but at the end it def was a dream job and dream school.
Cons
Leading a new school as a site coordinator will always be tough due to comfortable staff/coaches who are used to their old ways and not good with change. I had coaches that cared more about being friends with students instead of preventing incidents. This one coach I had always had kids getting hurt everyday. It was a nightmare having these type of coaches! Luckly, I had the best TPS that was my right hand when it came to laid back and disrespectful coaches. The program does not terminate easily, so sometimes you will unfortunately work with coaches that are not meant to work with kids. :(
