Easy Going, but limited pay and hours - Assistant Manager Big 5 Sporting Goods Employee Review

Pros

Easy Going enviroment, Friendly Staff. Potential to go from associate to part-time manager pretty quickly. Entry level job good for people looking for a first job or first management position, or re-entering the workforce from a gap year.

Cons

Low hours. Low pay. Part-Time management is the highest position you can get, unless you want to be a store manager. No benefits. Sells barely any women's and children's items, it's mostly a store tailored for men. Gun department is intimidating, especially when customers handle knives in front of you.

Pros

Most employees were really fun to work with, life/work balance was great, taught me good life skills, good first job for work experience.

Cons

Barely got scheduled (pretty sure my location was way over employed), occasional rude and entitled costumers (especially during the holidays), could get very slow and boring at times, sketchy area, overal, not a great job if you're looking for something that pays well.
