Pros
You got first person access to cool discounted items and clothing. They had bins you could set items aside in, and buy them after work/on days off. Almost every interviewer was accepted, so its a good place to get a quick job if you're in a bad spot & at the time had higher pay than some other companies. They kept pads & tampons in the bathroom for their employees to use. There was often donuts and other free snacks left inside the employee break room, which was set up fairly nice. A fridge, coffee machine, working sink, a microwave, toasters, etc. It was cleaned regularly.
Cons
Management was unpredictable and took their frustration out on employees, sometimes publicly. There was a case of a gay/transgender employee getting reprimanded for being open at work, claiming that it was bad experience for the "kids" (many employees were 15-17 year old teenagers) and the gay employee was then separated from working beside some of these teenagers, as if being gay/transgender meant they were a predator. Management attempted to pretend workers weren't putting in extra hours due to staffing shortages, and denied them their proper pay. There was many other regular abuses: people getting fired for petty reasons, employees being refused sick time off & being fired for being chronically ill, employees not receiving any benefits; or employees simply being yelled at because management was in a bad mood. Some teenage employees were forced into tears due to management abuse on their first week of work. Management forced cashiers to judge everyone who came through the door, and refused homeless people, drug addicts or anyone who "looked dirty" because they "might steal something". Teenagers were forced to shadow possible thieves, and to go through bags without a supervisor present, even if they felt scared or uncomfortable about the event.
