      Pros

      Excellent product line with vast global potential. If the company would divest part of their ownership to raise capital for modernization this could be a world class company. They currently have unrecognized talent and have had past talent that has shown this potential but these individuals have not been given the opportunity to reach potential due to internal family intervention. The family should take a great deal of pride in setting up an honorable and somewhat successful foundation with good products and a commendable mission statement. However, it needs a fresh infusion of outside talent and capital to fund a modern facility as well as contemporary research and development to remain viable in the current market economy.

      Cons

      Poor management by family that owns company. The work environment is one of tyranny for any manager is always fearful of displeasing the founding family for the slightest petty activity could lead to instant dismissal. Has had many talented short term employees that brought expertise but they were fired or left company after a short while due to conflict without cause instigated by family members that do not have business management, financial management or sales/marketing management competences in the current market environment. The operations, sales, marketing and financial management need upgraded and brought into the new millennium. Global potential is vast. Hangs on to out of date concepts. A google search reveals litigation that is relevant to company management decisions and actions that were unnecessary and has caused reputational harm.

      This is excellent feedback! Thank you for the level of detail. I can say that since I have been brought into Biotech by the board, I have seen the talent and enthusiasm of the work staff. I can tell you that my style of leadership is based on servant leadership. This has taken hold and the leadership has been very supportive of the changes I have recommended. We are moving fast and furious to address all the low hanging fruit and I look forward to hearing back from you as to how you see the company now.

      Pros

      The staff that maintained day to day operations were second to none. in my 10 years of employment sales went from $895k to be on pace for $6 million in sales in 2014. From the manufacturing staff to the head of the QC/QA department Bio-Tech has been fortunate to have the talent they've had available to them.

      Cons

      Lack of leadership from the husband and wife team that own the company. An incapable second generation will be the death nail for the company. A jealous and tyrannical second generation will be in control and will stifle the limited amount of impact current and future staff are able to contribute. It's unfortunate to see the great potential that is there go to waste. There is a reason so few businesses make the transition to the second generation and this company will soon add to that statistic as the aging owners have neared the end of their reign.

      I've heard this from a few people and understand the frustration. Family owned businesses can be hard to lead and I'm glad this issue has been addressed. Dale (owner) is loved by many and Martin is devoted to the mission of taking Biotech to the next level. We will only be able to do that by listening and learning from the employees that do the job on a daily basis. I feel strongly that we are headed the right direction and all leadership is focused on a culture of inclusion and servant leadership. I hope you are able to come by and see how far we have come since this review.
