Pros

There are a lot if brilliant, hard-working, friendly individuals that made the dysfunction bearable. There was a lot of cross-functional collaboration with my co-workers that I worked "in the trenches" with. The products (if given the time to optimize design and processes before mass manufacturing) are innovative tech/biologics. The workspace and snacks were nice too.

Cons

Inexperienced and Directionless Management: The management and executive leadership team lacked the necessary experience and vision to guide the company effectively. This resulted in a lack of clear direction, leading to confusion and frustration among employees. Bias in HR and Management: When employees raised concerns, HR and management were anything but impartial, leading to a lack of trust in the system. They disregarded genuine issues and showed a blatant favoritism, eroding trust within the company. Toxic Work Environment: The toxic work culture at Biomeme was perpetuated by its own management. This negative atmosphere hindered collaboration, innovation, and overall job satisfaction. Unclear Priorities and Unrealistic Expectations: The company's projects suffered from a constant lack of prioritization. Every project was deemed a top priority, leading to chaos and pulling employees in multiple directions. Additionally, management set unrealistic expectations, which placed unnecessary pressure on teams and hindered their ability to deliver quality results. A round of layoffs, furloughs, and the unceremonious departure of one of the co-founders are examples of the shortcomings of management - not to mention long-standing employees leaving due to the instability and uncertainty perpetuated by management. Poor Planning and Lack of Accountability: Biomeme is very reactive rather than proactive. While that worked during the pandemic when regulations were very lax - it is not a sustainable practice. Instead of optimizind product design and putting proper processes in place prior to mass manufacturing, Biomeme stood behind their stance of "building the plane while flying it". The absence of proper planning before making decisions resulted poor quality products and failed projects, such as the clinical trial disaster. This poor planning caused many employees to put in extra hours to try to meet unrealistic deadlines that was constantly met by roadblock after roadblock of failing product because production and design were not establish prior to build. The resulted in the trial ultimately being cancelled resulting in frustration and burnout. Instead of taking responsibility for these failures, management resorted to deflecting blame and pitting employees and teams against each other all while calling it a "learning experience" but still not applying what was learned to the next clinical trial attempt. This poor planning set individuals and teams up to fail which was demoralizing. Information Silo-ing and Inaccurate Decision-making: The executive leadership team made decisions based on limited and unreliable sources of information, neglecting the need for cross-verification and fact-checking. In the few instances when information was checked, it was often met with defensiveness which made it clear the biased viewpoint of the leadership team. This flawed decision-making process negatively impacted the entire company. Lack of Appreciation and Recognition/Underpaid Employees: Management failed to appreciate and recognize the efforts of all teams. Only revenue-generating teams received praise, while the hard work of back-end teams was often overlooked. Superficial gestures like free snacks and happy hours were used as a façade to mask this lack of genuine appreciation. Additionally, the majority of employees are underpaid. Management would justify salaries based on market research but failed to consider that employees are generally doing significantly more than what is in their job descriptions or what their job titles denote. Surprisingly, those who contribute the most to the positive aspect of Biomeme's culture and morale are the underpaid employees who are not part of the leadership team. Non-receptive to Feedback and Unrealistic Work-Life Expectations: Despite repeated attempts to provide constructive feedback, management only sought to justify their actions rather than learn from valuable input. The company's unrealistic expectation for employees to dedicate their entire lives to work resulted in burnout and decreased morale. Toxic Leadership: The company's small size allowed just a few individuals, especially those in leadership positions, to negatively affect the overall work atmosphere. Their actions poisoned the well and further contributed to the toxic environment. Department leader(s) often passed the blame for failures onto other teams or even their own subordinates which fostered a lack of trust between departments and within own teams.

Pros

This is the first company that I have worked at where I feel heard and comfortable. In my previous jobs, my management didn't know I existed, but here I have been able to learn and grow with the company in the past few years because of the management and their vision and care not only for the company but its employees.

Cons

None that I can think of.
