Career & Knowledge Booster! - Systems Administrator I BlueWave Computing Employee Review

Pros

The people, the ability to learn a lot very quickly, resume booster, great perks, team environment, no micromanaging, positive atmosphere, they pay for any cert you want, and they are fun! You can literally learn as much as you want, the more you give the more you get back in knowledge. I would go back in a heartbeat if the compensation was more competitive.

Cons

Low pay compared to competition, takes to long to progress (both through the ranks and financially), though being paid for sys admin level 1 you will be doing sys engineer work load (which I like but still had to mention), hard to progress without getting certs. It's not BW's fault but I didn't like arriving at clients offices and feeling like I was equal to a plumper or a simple technician. I think they should drop the uniform look (khaki's and BW polo).

BlueWave Computing Response

We've recently re-evaluated our salaries. We were shocked that this industry increased significantly in the last 12-18 months. We are addressing this. If this is why you left, please contact me or one of the other recruiters, we'd love to have you back.

Pros

Bluewave Computing presents the opportunity to truly grow with a company. While it does take some time to progress up the ranks, it is very possible to get noticed because of the organizational structure of the teams. If you are a hard worker and are self-motivated, there is no reason that you will not move up very quickly at this organization. I have seen the ups and downs. Even when the economy took a turn for the worst, this company still did not let anyone go due to financial problems. The CEO is very committed to his employees. Now, the economy has turned around and management is noticing that we are a bit behind on compensation. What do they plan to do? They are re-evaluating the compensation to bring them more in line with industry standards. Management is very agile and nimble given the correct data to back any changes that someone suggests. MAJOR UPSIDE HERE: If you have the data and business plan to support a new client offering, the EVP is always open to additional ideas on how to help out our clients from a strategic perspective.

Cons

Due to Bluewave still being a relatively small company, people sometimes wear multiple hats resulting in some ambiguous responsibilities. This is starting to get better as the company is in a major growth pattern and responsibilities are being assigned to their rightful places, and people are getting placed "inside the correct box."
